Making Church Matter

GUEST POST: Why you have to go to Matter

October 3, 2012

About a month ago our Pastor announced the second annual Matter Conference (November 3rd, 2012) right here on his blog. (To see that post go here) I’ll admit the first time he mentioned to the staff that we were going to host a conference I had to do a double take.  I thought, “Who are we to do a conference?” Now going into a second year I’ve realized the importance of this little conference.  It’s not only a chance to share our story; but, to equip and empower other churches with the same resources, knowledge and wisdom that have helped us make church matter.  In other words “You have to go.”

If you work, volunteer or attend a church I’m sure you are tired of the “Business As Usual” model happening around the country.  With churches closing and people leaving angry, upset and disenfranchised, something needs to change.  The reason you got involved at your local church is because you wanted to see life change, and you wanted to see God work through others.  As an employee of this church the last 8 years I’ve witnessed amazing life change.  It’s a humbling experience that only leads me to go deeper in my own personal faith.

This conference is designed to make your local church matter in the lives of kids, teenagers and adults.  Therefore, you need to join us, we want you to be here.  We want to listen, sit and pray with you so that you too can make church matter.

If you attend this is what you can you expect:

  • Authenticity This conference isn’t just about our successes, it’s also about our failures.  We aren’t claiming to be experts, we just want to share what we’ve learned and pass that on to you.  We all have stories and want to share ours with you and at the same time hear yours.
  • Support – I know when I’ve attended conferences before that I needed that voice of hope.  Just like you we’ve faced adversity and overcome huge obstacles.  This conference isn’t just about filling your head with knowledge; it’s about showing you a church who is cheering on for you and your ministry.
  • Practical Teaching Everyone who presents at this conference is currently in the trenches.  That means we aren’t just preaching but living and breathing ministry every day.  What we share with you and show you has been tried and tested.  It’s not just theories but practical steps to get you on the right path.

Doesn’t matter if you are a youth minister, operations officer or involved in adult faith formation, there is something for you.  Again, this is a mini conference from a church staff in the trenches facing the same situations you are facing.  And, we want you to be a part of it.

If you are in the Maryland, DC, Delaware or Virginia area, we would love for you to stop by.  Even if you live way out of town and wanted an excuse to come to Baltimore, this is your chance.  All you have to do in order to register for the Matter Conference is to click here. Again, we hope to see you there.
