Scripture

Love all means loving your enemies

December 26, 2009

Jesus said, “But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have? Do not tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brothers only, what is unusual about that? Do not pagans do the same?” – Matthew 5:44-47

To love all means to love even our enemies and to love our family even when they feel like enemies. Loving those who hurt us and wound us is not natural, that’s why pagans and tax collectors cannot do it. Loving our enemies takes supernatural love that comes from the holy Spirit’s power flowing through us. Jesus promises us that as we follow him and grow as disciples, the holy Spirit will grow within us and give us the supernatural ability to love even our enemies. We can take a baby step in that direction by asking God for the desire to love our enemies.
