Why We Chose to Have the Wonder Campaign During Lent

April 3, 2025

Lent is a season of preparation, reflection, and renewal. It’s a time when we intentionally turn our hearts toward God, stripping away distractions and making room for deeper prayer, fasting and generosity. As a church, we believe that Lent isn’t just about personal spiritual growth – it’s also about coming together as a community to respond to God’s call. That’s why we chose Lent as the perfect time to launch the Wonder Campaign, our initiative to expand space for our Next-Gen ministry.

Lent is a season of sacrifice and giving, modeled after Christ’s ultimate sacrifice for us. From the earliest days of the Church, Christians have used this season to focus on almsgiving – not simply giving from what is extra, but giving in a way that stretches and deepens our faith. Our giving is a way of responding to God’s goodness, trusting that when we step out in faith, he provides. By linking this campaign to the season of Lent, we are inviting our entire church community to take part in something bigger than ourselves – something that will bless children and families for years to come.

Lent is also a time of preparation. It’s a season that leads us toward Easter, the greatest celebration of new life. In the same way, the Wonder Campaign is about preparing for growth and creating something new. Our parish has been blessed with an ever-growing number of young families and children who are eager to learn, worship, and build relationships in faith. However, we know that to fully welcome and serve them, we need to create more space. This campaign is not just about physical expansion – it’s about spiritual expansion, about making room in our hearts and in our church for the next generation to encounter Christ.

Throughout Lent, we’re reminded that faith is not passive – it calls for action. The Wonder Campaign is our opportunity to step out in faith as a community. It requires trust, commitment, and a willingness to believe that God can do more through us than we could ever imagine. This campaign is our way of putting our faith into action, making an investment not just in buildings, but in the people who will fill them.

We recognize that there is never a “perfect” time to take on an initiative this big. There will always be challenges, uncertainties, and reasons to wait. Current headlines definitely underscore that point. But, Lent teaches us that trusting God often requires stepping forward even when we feel uncertain.

Ultimately, this campaign isn’t about fundraising – It’s about wonder. It’s about the wonder of what God will do through our sacrificial offering. It’s about the wonder of seeing young people encounter Christ in new ways. It’s about the wonder of building something that will serve generations to come. As we journey through Lent, we invite everyone in our community to embrace this opportunity, to give with open hearts, and to be part of something that will leave a lasting impact.
