Making Church Matter

It is Going to be Epic: the Book Update

January 17, 2013

I was thinking that it was time to update everybody on the book.

For all of you who don’t know, we’re publishing a book next month. It’s called Rebuilt (Ave Maria Press, Notre Dame, Ind.) and it will be available beginning February 25.  It tells the story of what happened to us, what we learned, and what we know about growing a healthy church.

The book is available online at Amazon as well as Barnes & Noble. But we recently received word that Barnes & Noble has also agreed to display the book at some of their “A List” stores on the East Coast (the store at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor is an “A List” store).  That sounded like a big deal to us, and it turns out it is.

The book carries the endorsement of a number of national Catholic figures, representing a range of expertise and perspectives including bishops, pastors, theologians, Catholic authors, and academics. They say some very encouraging things.

The preface of the book was written by Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York and President of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops. And it is a whopper….wait till you read it. Here’s a quote:

“Rebuilt is one of the most important books for parish ministry in our generation.”

The book will have it’s own website which is already live, though somewhat incomplete. Go to rebuiltparish.com.  On the site there will eventually be video supplements to many different sections and chapters in which different members of our staff go deeper in the practical details of what we’re describing in the book. Hopefully this will be complete by the end of February, in time for the book. (You can also click on the Rebuilt artwork at the top of the blog to visit the website.)

The weekend of February 23-24 we will be celebrating the book all weekend long here at Nativity. The weekend message will be introducing the book and the book will be on sale (at a discount to you, all proceeds going to the Church), though the number available that weekend might be limited.  And we will be holding book signings all weekend long. At first we thought it would be silly and pretentious to have a book signing, but we were vigorously persuaded to do it, and, on second thought, it could be fun.  We have some other surprises that weekend too, so definitely plan on joining us and bringing your friends.

It is going to be epic.

  1. Looking forward to the publication of Rebuilt, an important milestone for Nativity. Hoping the lessons you have learned can be put to good use in my own parish. Congratulations and thank you.

  2. Hey Father, I am incredibly excited about this book. I am friends with Chris and have been following the innovative work your ministry has been doing for years. So excited to hear your story. Also very honored that one of our projects (rebuildmychurch.org) was featured in the youth section of the site. Would love to do a video interview with you or a staff member about the book for my blog.
