In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came to be through him, and without him nothing came to be. What came to be through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race; the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. – John 1:1-5
Life comes through Jesus Christ. The reason we worship power or possessions or control is because we think that they will give us life. John tells us that life comes through Jesus Christ. He is the source of life and without him nothing comes into existence, which means we have no life apart from him. If we could let that truth sink into our hearts, we would stop trying to live a life apart from him and find the joy and life we so desperately desire.
