Still your soul

December 10, 2009

Lord, my heart is not proud; nor are my eyes haughty. I do not busy myself with great matters, with things too sublime for me.

Rather, I have stilled my soul, hushed it like a weaned child. Like a weaned child on its mother’s lap, so is my soul within me. Israel, hope in the Lord, now and forever.  – Psalm 131

This is a perfect psalm for Advent and Christmas. It speaks of having a child-like heart that does not seek glory and to be praised but to simply be in the presence of the Lord, like a child at peace with his mother. In the midst of this busiest time of the year, take some time today to just still your soul. Stop! Do nothing for a few minutes and try to just be with God.
